  1. Notes on PS-ASCII.EXE:

  3. This is a quickie Toolbook app written to eliminate the need for 
  4. keeping up with those ASCII/ANSI font charts in the back of every
  5. PostScript retail font package. I use certain characters (the
  6. trademark and copyright symbols, bullets) enough to have learned
  7. their ASCII codes, but using others has me constantly searching
  8. for those charts. That's how this program was born.
  9.  
  10. What in the application? Well, I've included a chart for one 
  11. san-serif font (Helvetica), one serif font (Times Roman), the
  12. Symbol font, and Zapf Dingbats. This covers most of what anyone
  13. should need in the way of character references (no pun intended).
  14. Most standard fonts in the Adobe catalog are covered by one of 
  15. the entries in this application. Notable exceptions are the 
  16. Carta (map) font, the Sonata (music) font, and anything in the 
  17. Adobe Expert collection series of fonts. If there is enough 
  18. interest shown in this application, I plan to write a version
  19. in C/Windows SDK with the ability to access the font map of 
  20. all installed fonts on a given Windows system. Another proposed 
  21. feature would be the ability to point and click on a character,
  22. pasting it directly to the keyboard. Let me here from you.

  24. This program is intended to distributed as freeware. (At least
  25. it will be worth every nickel you pay for it.) If you have the 
  26. full version of Toolbook, click in the lower right-hand corner
  27. of the application area, in the blank spot. There is a hidden
  28. button that will take you into the "author" mode. Feel free to 
  29. modify whatever you like for your own use.
